Mortality as Fuel

"For it’s always that way with the sacred value of life. We forget it as long as it belongs to us, and give it as little attention during the unconcerned hours of our life as we do the stars in the light of day. Darkness must fall before we are aware of the majesty of the stars above our heads.” - Stefan Zweig

Quote of the Week 💬

"For it’s always that way with the sacred value of life. We forget it as long as it belongs to us, and give it as little attention during the unconcerned hours of our life as we do the stars in the light of day. Darkness must fall before we are aware of the majesty of the stars above our heads.”

Framing Your Reflection 🖼️

Do you notice stars in the sky during daytime? Probably not…I certainly don’t on almost all the days.

But noticing them regularly can provide some bone chilling perspective.

With all the problems and to-dos clawing at our attention during daily life, we often lose sight of something truly miraculous…we are not dead. 💀

We were dead for billions of years before we were born.

We will be dead for eternity after Clotho cuts our thread. If you’re reading this…the Universe has given you the gift 🎁 of consciousness.

And yet…we squander it. By keeping the thought of Death out of sight, out of mind. Much like we do with the stars during the day. 🌌 ☀️

Why think of Death…at all?

Because nothing lights a fire in your belly🔥 to start living courageously like fully accepting that today could be your last.

Not accepting “in theory”.

Sit there.

With yourself.

In silence.

And make yourself FEEL it.

Let that existential anxiety set you free⛓️‍💥 from petty arguments and mindless pursuits.

If you’re scared to take action towards what you want because you don’t know what will happen…

And you’re ALSO scared that you will die without living up to your potential…

Notice that you are scared……either…..way. 😳

But only ONE choice makes things better - not just for you, but for everyone whose life you will touch.

Today when we look at the day’s sky, let’s remember that the stars are STILL there. And maybe we get a nervous feeling in our stomachs.

One that pushes us to improve before we get the Reaper’s shoulder tap letting us know it’s time to go.

So go forth and conquer today.

First and foremost….Yourself. 🪞

Let the acceptance of mortality fuel your fire to live fully…on your terms. 💪

Three Journal Prompts ✍️

🔍 Prompt #1: A Brush with Death

A lot of us have either personally or through someone close to us had a brush with death. This particular prompt can hurt, so don’t forget to please show yourself some grace and reach for a friend if it pushes you to the edge. Healing can hurt.

If it happened to you…

  1. Did it trigger any behavior change afterwards? If not, why not?

  2. If so, what and to what intensity?

  3. Has the passing of time since then chipped away at your living fervor?

If it happened to someone close…

  1. Same first two questions.

  2. What would this person think of your answer(s) to the first two questions?

🧠 Prompt #2: The Deathbed Razor

No one on their deathbed wishes they would’ve spent more time answering work email, getting into arguments online, etc.. While this razor is not a panacea (we are all adults with certain obligations we cannot avoid, like taking out the trash), take a closer look at the activities in your day-to-day. Think to yourself “Is this something that on my deathbed I would wish I would’ve done more of?”.

🔭 Prompt #3: Terminal Illness Diagnosis

Survivors of terminal illness often cite that it was the best thing that could’ve happened to them. They say that when you know your days are numbered, it provides true perspective on where you actually need to spend your time.

Brace yourself here as you faithfully entertain a powerful hypothetical - if you were suddenly given only 3 months to live, how would you spend them?

Life Improvement Toolbox 🧰

This section is all about helping us go beyond the prompts by…

  • sharing reading that dives deeper into what the prompts explore

  • finding cool journaling stuff for the artsy part of our craft

  • improving the mind + body connection by paying attention to how we take care of our bodies

📚 Reader’s Corner

Stoic Philosophy can serve as an excellent guide for certain heavier-than-usual life truths.

A phenomenal and easy read is The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday.

Daily 2-min reads that help you center yourself on what matters most. Explore the book here.

P.S.

While reading is something we pretty much have to actively do, listening is fair game for dog walking, dish cleaning, chores, and driving.

For those into hyper-learning tricks….using the audible together with the written version of any book can do wonders for info recall.

🧠 Mind + Body Connection

Just because we know we’re going to die doesn’t mean we don’t take care of ourselves.

When it comes to getting older, the first thing people think of is skincare (our face in the mirror). But our cells are the ones aging….

We can revitalize ourselves and our minds at the cellular level by replenishing NAD+.

This compound is key for cellular repair, but drops by up to 65% from age 30 to 70 (faster if you stress out a lot).😳

TRU Niagen is one of those things I wish I’d started years if not decades ago.

Backed by 2 Nobel Prize Winners🥇and 50+ years of research, this is the science-backed way of taking care of your cells. With just 300mg a day, you can increase your NAD+ by up to 51% in just 2 weeks. Check them out 🌱

Affirmation for Mortality as Fuel

"Today I will live with intention”

As we dive deeper into understanding ourselves, let’s remember that we are not alone.

Writing is healing and healing can hurt - reach out to friends and family. They are there for you.

Sending Good Vibes,
